The Final Table Official Results Chinese Poker Results The Evening Tournament |
Old Boy NetworkBy Mike PaulleThe classic profile of the poker player returned today after a short hiatus. Middle-aged, mostly white males occupied all ten of the final table seats. So much for progress in poker. The string of record setting events came to an end today as 196 players showed up Limit Omaha. The total prize pool was $39,200. When Billy Dalton caught a 7 on the turn, his nut straight cracked Mickey Cesara's trip Aces. There were now fourteen players left, all of whom were in the money. To set up the final table, Earl Kim's Aces knocked out Joe Cadvelli and his failed flush draw in 11th.
Earl Hamb went all-in with his last three chips when the flop gave him the nut straight draw. Billy Dalton got the nut flush on the next card. Earl was 10th. Walt Williams had managed to escape last place with his tiny stack. But when he went all-in with Q Q as an overpair to the board, Earl Kim was happy to call with A A. Williams got the most from his chips in 9th. Earl Kim had been crippled on the Billy Dalton flush hand. Taking out the short stack didn't help much. All-in with Q 10 when a Q 10 flopped, Kim was rivered by an Ace to give O'Neal Longson Aces and Queens. Earl's were running bad at the final table. Jerry Harwell was the next to take a beat. Going all-in when he flopped a Queen top pair with an Ace, he was called by Gene Bowden with A K. No waiting! The turn produced a King and Harwell wasn't feeling that well in 7th. Gene Bowden tried to get a flush draw to come in against Miles Barnes. But it was Miles whose flush got there. Gene Bowd-en 6th. O'Neal Longson needed chips, he flopped trip 3's with a flush draw against Jack Swidler. Jack had Jacks, natch, and another came on the turn for Jacks full. O'Neal, you were a little short, son in 5th. The final four made a save. The new payment was to be $12,000 for first. $8,400 for second and $5,000 for third and fourth. When it got down to two players, Luigi Grilla and Billy Dalton decided to split $19,000 and play for the $1,500 cash and TOC seat. In the last hand, Billy had Kings, Luigi had Jacks. A Jack and a pair came to give the title to Grilla.
11th-14th received $294 Joe Cadvelli, Don Fowler, Bob Skundberg, Rich Schinkowitch
With six players left Mike O'Malley was ticketed for non-payment. The other five took pity on him, though, and gave 6th place $240 off the top prize. With two players left, one of the more creative deals went down. Keoki Ho from Playa del Rey, CA had the most chips so he wanted the most money. Ho didn't care about the Tournament of Champions. The ruling, however, didn't allow the TOC seat to go to anyone but the chip leader. So Keoki simply mucked every hand until Bill Seale of Houston, TX had the most chips. Now Ho received the most money as planned. Ho took $2,800, Seale got $2,000 and the TOC seat.
