ESCARGOT 2007
ESCARGOT 2007, the ninth
extraordinary Southern California Annual RecGambling Outing and Tournament, a BARGE-like
event in the Los Angeles area, will be held Thursday through Sunday, January 11
through January 14, 2007. The Bicycle Casino, which has done a great job
hosting for the last six years, will host ESCARGOT 2007. For those attending
from out of town, rooms will be available at various local hotels through the
Bike's Welcome Center.
Official ESCARGOT Activities will include:
Thursday 7:15pm 1/2 PLHE - 1/2 PLO Tournament* $55 buy-in + $10 entry + $5 tip
Friday 6:15pm LHE Tournament $55 buy-in + $10 entry + $5 tip
Saturday 11:15am NLHE Shoot-out to Match-Play $80 buy-in + $20 entry + $5 tip
Sunday 12:15pm NLHE
with one free rebuy** $55
buy-in + $10 entry + $5 tip
* PLO is pot-limit Omaha high only
** You will receive one free
rebuy in this tournament which you
may take any time before players are 'in the money.'
This year a $40 registration
fee will be charged. The
registration fee provides each guest with six meal comps, which can be used
anytime from Wednesday January 10 through Monday, January 15 (please note that
ownership of a free Classic Card
from the Bike gives you even more free food opportunities). It also covers the cost of the awards
banquet, trophies, and a s00per secret souvenir. The registration deadline is Monday, January 8, 2007. Please
register as soon as you can to make life easy on the organizers. Registrations for ESCARGOT will
be on-line only. There will be no on-site registration.
In order to save the
organizers (and the Bike) grief, we will be collecting all of the buy-ins,
entry fees, tips, and the registration fee up-front. We've
added a $5 dealer toke for every event.
As at recent BARGEs, we want to insure that the dealers are treated
well.
The total cost for all ESCARGOT events is $355, exclusive of
lodging. This includes four RGP
tournaments, all your meals, the awards banquet and trophies, the souvenir, and
all the fun you can possibly have.
Unofficial Events: If you have any ideas for any "unofficial" events, like Roshambo, Chowaha, or a golf outing, please coordinate this through Marc Gilutin.
The Bicycle Casino holds regular daily tournaments at 12:15 pm and 7:00 pm. The afternoon tournaments are all no-limit hold'em, with a $30 buy-in, $10 entry fee, and no rebuys. The evening tournaments are also all no-limit hold'em, with a $200 buy-in, $30 entry fee with no rebuys. The Bicycle Casino also spreads a large variety of cash games, with limits from $1/$2 to $300/$600 and a multitude of no-limit cash games. Please email Marc Gilutin with any questions about the Bike's live-action games.
The Sunday no-limit hold'em event will have one free rebuy. You will receive half your chips when you start play. You will receive a form that allows you to get the other half of your chips (the rebuy). You may take your rebuy immediately or at any time before players are in the money – but it must be taken before players are 'in the money.'
Meal Tickets, Hats, Pins, Badges and the Souvenir: When checking in at the Bicycle Casino's Welcome Center, all ESCARGOT attendees will receive an ESCARGOT badge and a supply of six meal tickets good anytime from Wednesday, January 10 through Monday, January 15, 2005. Your badge, designed to look like a "Backstage" pass, should be worn while you're on the premises. Wearing your pass will allow the Bike to get a first-hand look at how many of us are there, and how valuable we are to them. Each attendee will also receive the ESCARGOT s00per secret souvenir.
Transportation: The Bicycle Casino, which is located at 7301 Eastern Avenue, Bell Gardens, CA 90201, offers shuttle service on an "as available" basis to and from LAX for arriving and departing attendees. To arrange for pickup, call the Bike's Welcome Center, 562.806.4646, about a week or two prior to the event. They will pick guests up outside the baggage claim area at your terminal. When you call to arrange pickup, please have your flight number, time of arrival, and air carrier handy for them. If attendees can coordinate arrival times, it will make things substantially easier on the Bike. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is located about 18 miles west of the Bicycle casino, and is served by all major airlines. Several companies offer shuttle service, including SuperShuttle (http://www.supershuttle.com). Rental cars are also available.
Attendees from out-of-town should also consider Long Beach Municipal airport (LGB). JetBlue airlines (http://www.jetblue.com/) flies to LGB from several major cities, including Oakland, Las Vegas, New York (JFK), Boston, Fort Lauderdale, and Washington, DC (IAD). American Airlines (http://www.aa.com/), America West Airlines (http://www.americawest.com/) and Alaska Airlines (http://www.alaskaair.com/) also fly into Long Beach.
Lodging: Lodging will be coordinated through the Bike's Welcome Center. We strongly advise against staying at the Ramada Limited (the motel across the street from the Bike). The Bike's Welcome Center will have a listing of available hotels and rates. We will post this information when it becomes available (probably in early November).
The ESCARGOT Team: This year we have a team in place to make things work even more smoothly than they did in the past. I will again be handling registration payments. Payments can be made via check or money order only. We don't want cash sent through the mail, and we've had some trouble with PayPal and won't be utilizing them. . I'm assisted by Marc Gilutin. Marc (a Bike employee as well as an RGPer) and I will be on site to handle any minor glitches.
This year's keynote event will again be a no-limit, shootout to match play tournament. Beginning with eight tables, we will play down until there is one winner at each table. The table winner along with the second place finisher at each table will move into the match play round.
This format promotes 16 players into the match play round, where winners play winners, and those finishing second at their tables will play in a Secondary Bracket. Table winners who lose a match drop down to the secondary bracket. Anyone losing a match in the Secondary Bracket is out of the tournament. The winner of the Secondary Bracket will eventually play the winner of the Winners Bracket, and the winner of the Winners Bracket only has to beat his/her Secondary Bracket opponent once to win this event, while the once-beaten player who emerges from the Secondary Bracket will have to win two matches in order to be victorious.
