Saturday, 8/7/99, 8:00pm, BARGE banquet. Speaker to be announced.
BARGE, as everyone in the free world of rec.gambling.* knows, is the Big
August Rec.Gambling Excursion (to Las Vegas). This is our annual
venture out of cyberspace into the Real World (shudder) in which we
get together to meet our most favorite/notorious Usenet personalities
face-to-face, participate in several BARGE-private events, and
generally blow off steam (not hard to do in Las Vegas in August).
As is our tradition, BARGE '99 will be centered around the first full
weekend of August. Here's what is going on:
At 10am on Thursday, BARGE will kick-off with a video poker tournament at the Orleans.
The entry fee is $40. Of this fee, $30 will go to the prize pool.
The first BARGE social event will be on
Thursday, August 5 at 5:30pm. It's a dinner at The Mirage buffet. For $17 the folks at the Mirage give us a private area where we can feast together.
Friday at 10:00am will be the blackjack tournament at the Orleans. The cost of
this event is $50. Of this fee, $40 will go into the prize pool.
Friday evening at 6:00pm will be our symposium.
Snacks will be included
but the bar will be no-host. The symposium will feature our Calcutta/parimutuel
gaming for our centerpiece event, the no-limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament.
Saturday at 10:00am will be our no-limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament at the
Orleans. The cost of this event is $60. Of this fee, $50 will go into the prize pool.
First prize will also include a custom
set of BARGE chips
designed by last year's winner, Lee Jones.
Saturday evening at 8 PM will be the BARGE banquet.
This will be at a sit-down dinner, in a private dining room and will cost $33.
There will be a brief awards ceremony for the winners of the various
tournaments.
We are still lining up our banquet speaker. Watch this space for details.
We expect a few additions to the schedule...the above is what we know
about at the moment, though everything is subject to change.

Who is Eligible to Register for BARGE?
Registrations are limited to members of the rec.gambling.* community.
The organizers reserve the right to deny
particpation in any or all BARGE events to anyone, at their discretion.
Registrations must be performed online and by the registrant personally
(no third-party registrations). An exception is made for Significant Others.
A registration is also to be considered an exclusive agreement between
the registrant and BARGE, and may not be assigned to another party
without the prior agreement of the BARGE Organizers. These steps have
been deemed necessary to preserve BARGE as an r.g-private event.
When will Registration Open?
Registration for BARGE 99 will open at 2pm Eastern time on Friday, April 30. All registration must be done
online via our World Wide Web registration page. You must register for yourself. Full registration details are available on our registration page.
With the continued explosive growth of the Internet, we're
not even going to hazard a guess as to how big BARGE '99 is going to
be, but we anticipate an early sell-out of all events.
Procrastinators have been warned.
Cancellation or other Changes to Registrations
All registrations are final. Any changes to an existing registration
(with the exception of clearing a waiting-list for an event) will be
assessed a $10.00 change fee.
All registrations are to be paid by either MasterCard or Visa and the
credit card must be supplied on-line using our secure server. There
will be a $10.00 special handling charge if you wish to provide your credit
card by any other means, or if you wish to pay by check or money order.
If you elect to pay by check or money order and the instrument is
uncollectable you will be assessed a $50.00 penalty.
Your credit card will be charge for your registration fee as soon as is
practical after you register. If there is a problem processing your card
we will contact you. If the problem continues your registration will be
cancelled. The charge will appear on your credit card statement as coming
from Conjelco/BARGE.
If you cancel a registration before June 15th you are
entitled to a full refund, less a $20 cancellation fee. A cancellation
after June 15th is not guaranteed any refund, due to the prepayment of many
events. These will be handled on a case-by-case basis at the sole
discretion of the organizers. In any event, any refunds will be reduced by
the $20 cancellation fee. No refunds will be issued until September 1999.
All fees mentioned are used to cover expenses or are placed into the
BARGE fund.
Disputed Credit Card Charges
Please bring all credit card disputes to the attention of the organizers
prior to contacting your bank. Anyone who files a dispute with a bank prior
to trying to resolve the problem with the organizers will be barred from
attending this or any future BARGE.
The BARGE Mailing List
We maintain a mailing list for those attending or planning on
attending BARGE. To be included on this list, send
e-mail to
barge-request@barge.org, with
SUBSCRIBE BARGE as the body of the message.

All official BARGE events are non-smoking.
Comps
Occasionally BARGE will hold an event at a restaurant or other
establishment where some BARGErs ordinarily get comped. It is BARGE's
policy not to accept comps in lieu of payment for such an event, nor to
participate in the comp arrangement. People receiving comps are free
to work out refunds with the comping establishment directly, but must
still register for (and pay in advance for) the event in question.
